Women's Leadership: Why Women Should Be Themselves

Updated: Aug 31, 2021

Women already have the right leadership tools instilled in them. Her Wisdom co-founder Wende Jager-Hyman shares the ways women can be better leaders at home, at work, and in the world.

Women Leaders

The cry for Women to become leaders in industry, government, and even their families has been a mantra for as long as I can remember. The inequality of opportunities for growth professionally, financially, and within the family unit are historically factual. Unfortunately, many of these inequalities continue to exist today. Despite the fact that there is a female Vice President of the United States and that there are women CEOs of the fortune 500 – 41 of them in fact (ugh glass ceiling you are still there) – we still have a long way to go!!!!

Over the years, I have worked with and trained thousands of women, both in business, and in educational settings. What I have learned is that women are indeed different from men! I know that that may come as a surprise to many of you. I have observed that our emotional intelligence competencies tend to be keener and sharper. I truly believe that all of those “soft” reasons that have been used over the centuries for not wanting female leaders such as, she is too soft, she is too emotional etc. are the very qualities that make women OUTSTANDING team players, OUTSTANDING facilitators, OUTSTANDING evaluators,

and OUTSTANDING leaders.

Unfortunately, many women who have “risen to the top” have done so by perceiving the need to limit the expression of these very positive attributes. They have often felt it necessary to act “more macho than the men”. In truth, it is only when we allow our authentic selves to determine our actions that we can realize our potential and become OUTSTANDING leaders.

Her Wisdom's Role in Women's Leadership

Most “women’s leadership” training focuses on developing the practical skill sets of management. While I am a firm believer in the need for technical competence and excellence in all leaders, I also believe that when we, as women, learn to tap into our authentic selves and embrace our female attributes, we become OUTSTANDING leaders. I truly believe that this model of authentic, open, and caring leadership can and will create positive change for all.

Her Wisdom was founded to foster that vision, to help women tap into their own power, their honest emotions, and to trust their internal compass while they expand their practical knowledge base. Her Wisdom is an organization that is not solely about focusing on the technical skill sets that are important for success; it is dedicated to creating a circle of women who can learn from one another, in a supportive community that understands, and is dedicated to helping everyone succeed, regardless of the path that each individual chooses. When women work together, learn together and support each other, each one of us becomes greater. Together we can become the leaders that the world needs.
